AUTO RACING: The Citrus County Speedway program will consist of short-track stock car racing in the Late Model, Sportsman, Street Stock, Hobby Stock, Mini Stock, Thunder Stock and Figure 8 classes, in addition to Open Powder Puff races and a display of Dale Earnhardt's 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. The quarter-mile track is 2 miles south of Inverness off U.S. 41 at the fairgrounds. Gates open at 4 p.m., and the first heat race is at 6:30. Admission: Adult general, $10; seniors and students to age 17, $8; children under 10, $2; under-12 child with paid adult, free; pits, $20.

Clubs

THE PEDAL BOATS CLUB: A fee is charged, and watercraft are available. Informal gatherings include weekend cruising, nature site visits and fun racing for free. Kayakers are welcome. For information on times and locations, call Nancy Sanford, (727) 525-8842.

THE WEST PASCO AUDUBON SOCIETY, a chapter of the Florida and National Audubon Society, meets on the second Thursday of each month (except for April, July and August) at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Congregational Church, 6533 Circle Blvd. in downtown New Port Richey. The meetings are free and open to all, and deal with educational subjects such as birds, nature and conservation. Call Ken Tracey, (727) 372-9640, for information.

THE HERNANDO AUDUBON SOCIETY, a chapter of the Florida and National Audubon Society, meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Brooksville Community Hall, 205 East Ft. Dade Ave. Membership is open to all. For information, call Jeanne Brown, (352) 754-5186.

THE MEADOWCREST BOAT AND FISH CLUB meets at noon the first Thursday of every month at J's Country Kitchen, 1960 NW Hwy 19, Crystal River. Call (352) 563-0908.

THE HERNANDO AREA BOAT CLUB, organized to promote safe boating, meets on the first and third Wednesday of every month at the Aripeka Community Center on Osawa Boulevard (S.R. 595). Call (352) 666-1725.

Hunting regulations

FALL TURKEY SEASON starts today in the Central and South Zones and continues through Jan. 6. GENERAL GUN SEASON opens today in the Central Zone and continues through Jan. 20. QUAIL AND SQUIRREL SEASON starts today in all zones and continues through March 3. ARCHERY SEASON closes Sunday in the NW Zone.
