Bure's two goals help Panthers tie Flames

SUNRISE -- Pavel Bure upstaged his younger brother and gave the Panthers a valuable point.

Bure scored his second goal seven minutes into the third period to lift the Panthers to a 3-3 tie with the Calgary Flames on Friday night.

Bure, who got his 600th NHL point with his first goal, tied it with a slap shot from just outside the blue line that went through goalie Mike Vernon's legs.

"I was way out there, but it doesn't really matter where you shoot it from, as long as you score," Bure said.

Peter Worrell also scored for Florida, which has a league-low eight points.

"The effort was outstanding, and this is something we can build on," said Panthers coach Terry Murray, who has drawn criticism from fans in the wake of his team's poor start.

"We know we have a long way to go. We have a lot of work ahead of us, and the players know it."

Bure's younger brother, Valeri, scored for Calgary, which is 1-5-3-1 in its last 10.

Hurricanes end skid by beating Leafs 3-1

RALEIGH, N.C. -- Craig Adams scored his first NHL goal and Rod Brind'Amour had a short-handed goal as the Carolina Hurricanes ended a three-game losing streak with a 3-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday night.

Sami Kapanen also scored for Carolina, which was coming off an 0-3 road trip that included a 5-0 loss to Toronto on Wednesday, and was outscored 14-4 in the three losses.

Dmitri Khristich scored for the Maple Leafs, who were 3-0-1 in their past four going into the game.

Adams scored 6:06 into the game when he took a pass from Sandis Ozolinsh, then beat Glenn Healy to the stick side.

Brind'Amour got Carolina's third short-handed goal of the season at 7:33 of the second period. He overpowered Dimitri Yushkevich at Toronto's blue line, then skated unopposed and flipped in his second goal of the season from just outside the crease.

PENGUINS 4, DEVILS 2: Alexsey Morozov scored the go-ahead goal late in the second for visiting Pittsburgh, and New Jersey goalie Martin Brodeur was knocked out of the game on the play.

Brodeur, off-balance while reacting to Morozov's shot off a rebound at 15:50, fell backward and struck his head on the ice. He was motionless for several minutes before leaving under his own power.

The team said Brodeur, who was replaced by Chris Terreri, was cut on the left side of his head.

Martin Straka, Milan Kraft and Jan Hrdina also scored for the Penguins, who extended their unbeaten streak to 3-0-1.

The defending Stanley Cup champion Devils lost their fourth straight and extended their winless steak to five.

The Penguins lost 9-0 to the Devils the last time the teams met on Oct. 28.

WILD 5, BLACKHAWKS 2: Marian Gaborik and Stacy Roest scored 39 seconds apart early in the third to lead visiting Minnesota.

Cam Stewart, Filip Kuba and Antti Laalsonen also scored for Minnesota, which had lost its past two. Stewart's goal 2:25 into the game was the Wild's first in 122:25.

Tony Amonte and Michael Nylander scored for the Blackhawks, who lost to an expansion team for the first time this season after beating Minnesota once and Columbus twice.

AVALANCHE: Center Rob Shearer was recalled from Hershey of the American Hockey League. FLAMES: Defenseman Igor Kravchuk was claimed off waivers from the Senators. It remains to be seen if the Flames send any players to Ottawa in a separate transaction, thus completing a trade and circumventing Kravchuk's $1-million, no-trade clause in his contract. He had a goal and five assists and a plus-4 rating in 15 games with the Senators. The Flames will have to pick up the remaining $2.5-million on Kravchuk's contract this season and pay him $2.25-million next season.

SENATORS: Ottawa signed defenseman Jamie Rivers to a multiyear contract to shore up an injury-depleted defensive corps.
