© St. Petersburg Times, Citrus Park planners again meet with residentsCITRUS PARK -- There's a buzz about Citrus Park. Make it more "neotraditional," with connected streets and mixed-use buildings, some say. Leave it alone, others say. Keep it rural. The dialogue has been going on for more than a year, and planners will get together with residents one more time Tuesday to discuss the Citrus Park Village Plan. If the Hillsborough County Commission approves this plan, it will go on to the state Department of Community Affairs. Next stop: Inclusion in the county's comprehensive land use plan. The meeting is at Sickles High School cafeteria from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Westchase YMCA opens gymWESTCHASE -- The showcase of Westchase just got showier. The YMCA says it will open a 3,800-square-foot fitness center in the Town Center at West Park Village. The gym will offer weight training and cardiovascular facilities, aerobic classes, strength-training machines, locker rooms and a child care area. The YMCA will be open fom 5:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. Standard memberships are available, as well as fee-based special programs offered throughout the year. Retired school leader honoredTAMPA PALMS -- The man who opened Lawton Chiles Elementary School has not gone unnoticed at Tampa City Hall. The City Council last week gave Tom Dessy a commendation for outstanding service. Dessy retired unexpectedly in September for health reasons. He had come out of a five-year retirement in February to lead the new school. Perhaps one of his greatest challenges was pulling the community together around the new school after some families wanted it to remain a satellite of the high-performing Tampa Palms Elementary School.
