Open & shutCompiled by Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published November 12, 2000 CarrollwoodNEW APARTMENTS: A leasing office is open at the Arbors of Carrollwood, an upscale apartment community on Ehrlich Road that languished early in the year when the construction company went bust. Apartments should be ready for move-in by February. The Arbors, much of which is still under construction, is slated to be a 478-unit complex with layouts ranging from small one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom single family homes. Apartment rentals start at $710, and the homes start at $1,600. The Arbors is unique among North Tampa rental communities in that the focal point will be a town center built along the lines of new urbanism. It will feature an urban streetscape with a post office, bank, clubhouse and administrative offices at ground level. Apartments will be integrated into the second and third floors along both sides of the main street. Set apart from the apartment buildings will be 88 homes clustered in a low-density neighborhood setting. Also on the drawing board is a recreation center. Other amenities will include gated access, a clubouse, two swimming pools, whirlpool, a playground and grill area, tennis court, fitness center, aerobics room and laundry facilities. AUTO CENTER: Long Tire and Auto plans to open Wednesday in the former Kaufman Tire Center at 14324 N Dale Mabry Highway, in the Shoppes of Carrollwood. Long, a Goodyear dealer, has two other locations in Hillsborough. CAFE CLOSES: Kokopelli's Kafe, located inside Body Tech Fitness Emporium at 12926 N Dale Mabry Highway and open less than four months, has closed. Body Tech owner Tim Gardner said he will reopen the cafe under new management in about a month.
