The Center Against Spouse Abuse, the Haven of RCS, PAR and Community Pride Childcare have established a program called Creating a New Generation of PeaceMakers in Pinellas County.

The program is aimed at preschool and middle school children. The organizations will address the issues of violence and diversity. The program, including staff and presentations, is free to all schools. For more information, call 823-4413 in south county and 449-8444 in north county.

Agencies detail new adult's rights

The Florida Bar and the Florida Department of Education have joined efforts to educate the state's high school seniors about their legal rights and responsibilities when they turn 18 years old. The Bar's committee developed a 24-page informational pamphlet that explains the privileges and legal obligations of new adults.

"Legal Guide for New Adults" has been sent to every senior in Florida's public high schools. Funding was provided by the Florida Bar and mailing expenses were provided by the Florida Department of Education.

The easy-to-read booklet explains such things as an individual's right to vote, right to sue in court, privilege to drive in Florida, right to enter a contract, rights and protections as a consumer and employee, rights when arrested, responsibility to file income tax and right to serve on a jury. Call (850) 561-5622.
