Poynter to host writing workshop for high school

The Poynter Institute will host the Florida High School Writers Workshop for high school students and teachers. The event, scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, will be held at the University of South Florida, Bayboro Campus, St. Petersburg and is free

American Stage to hold memorial for director

American Stage will present a memorial service in honor of the late stage director William Garette Shepard, Jr., who passed away unexpectedly in September, at 8 p.m. Nov. 26 at the theater, 211 Third St. S, St. Petersburg. The service will include readings, musical numbers and performances by many of the artists who worked with Shepard during his four years as production stage manager at the theater. Space is limited, so reservations are recommended. A memorial fund has been set up in Shepard's name, and family members ask that anyone wishing to donate to send funds to the American Stage William Garette Shepard Jr. Fund. County Animal Services plans reunion celebration

Adopt a pet for $30 or less at the Pinellas County Department of Animal Services Fifth Annual Family Reunion and Community Celebration, 12450 Ulmerton Road, Largo. Bring out the whole family, including your pets, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 9 for free hot dogs, soft drinks, entertainment, pet vendors with free samples, face painting and drawings for tickets to Lowry Park Zoo, Celebration Station and more. Rabies shots are available for $1 with the purchase of county pet licence. Free pictures with Mrs. Santa Paws while they last. Call 582-2600.
