John Smith, John Smith II and Todd Ferguson of the team Et-Tu-Brute have done it two weeks in a row. They won the third annual Suncoast Kingfish Classic, which finished Sunday at Holiday Inn Harbourside in Indian Rocks Beach, with a king mackerel of 39.88 pounds. The team also won last week at Treasure Island SKC's tournament with a king of 39.44 pounds.

They were about 30 miles northwest of Clearwater in about 70 feet of water, a short distance from where they got last week's winning fish. "The fish hit a cigar minnow on the flat line just before noon and it took about 35 minutes to get it to the boat," Smith said. "I didn't really figure on getting (two winning) fish from the same spot, but we did." Last week they won a $103,000 boat, motor and trailer. This week's prize: a boat, motor and trailer valued at $32,000. Not a bad couple of days fishing.

Ed Walker, who frequently bangs out big tarpon to win tarpon tournaments during the summer, caught a respectable second-place king mackerel. Walker, on Lady Green Eyes, brought in a 35.86-pound king he caught about 25 miles north of Clearwater. The fish took a slow-trolled shad in 14 feet. It took about 10 minutes to land the fish after the hook-up.

Mike Collins with Team Duprez carried a 35.70-pound king to the scales to take third.

Katie Carr on Jaybird won the ladies division with a 33.88-pound king. "It was a little crazy out there with all the boats anchored next to us," Carr said of problems fighting the fish. She also won last fall at the tournament at Gators.

The next tournament is the Old Salt's King of the Beach, at Crabby Bill's, Indian Rocks Beach. Captains meet 7 p.m. Thursday.
