The Lightning might ask the NHL to evaluate for possible disciplinary action a knee-to-knee hit Pittsburgh defenseman Darius Kasparaitis appeared to put on right wing Matthew Barnaby.
No penalty was called on the hit, which occurred 6:52 into the third period of the Lightning's 3-2 overtime victory Saturday.
"We're hopeful that the NHL in its routine review of game tapes will make a decision based on what they see," Tampa Bay spokesman Bill Wickett said Sunday. "If not, we may have to ask our hockey operations department to take a closer look at that specific play."
Barnaby carried the puck into the Penguins zone and crashed into Kasparaitis, who on replays appeared to extend his knee to make the hit.
Barnaby crumpled, holding his right knee. He skated to the bench with help and went to the training room. He returned to the bench with a bruised knee but did not play again. Kasparaitis said the contact was accidental. Barnaby, who is Kasparaitis' friend and a former Penguins teammate, called it a cheap shot.

SABRES: Forward Vaclav Varada was suspended by the league for three games. Varada struck Eric Lindros in the forehead with his stick Saturday.
THRASHERS: Goalie Norm Maracle was sent to Chicago of the AHL after one game. Maracle, who was out of shape and didn't show for training camp, got another chance when he was recalled Friday, but he lost 3-0 to Washington on Saturday.
CANUCKS 5, WILD 0: Markus Naslund had a goal and an assist and former Lightning goaltender Dan Cloutier made 18 saves for his third shutout of the season for visiting Vancouver.
Brendan Morrison and Todd Bertuzzi had a pair of assists for the Canucks, who scored on three of five shots in the first period. The Wild were shut out at home for the second straight game.
HURRICANES 1, OILERS 1: Jeff Daniels scored for the first time in 53 games and Tom Barrasso stopped a penalty shot for host Carolina, which is 4-0 in its past six.
Edmonton tied it 59 seconds into the second when Anson Carter assisted Mike Comrie's seventh goal.
Carter was awarded the penalty shot when Carolina defenseman Aaron Ward closed his hand on the puck in the crease.
RANGERS 3, CANADIENS 2 (OT): Lindros scored 56 seconds into overtime for host New York. Mike York tied it for New York 6:42 into the third.
