Soldiers' stories will offer a history lesson

Boyd Hill Nature Park's Pinellas Pioneer Settlement invites Pinellas County schoolchildren to "Five Centuries of Soldiers" Friday from noon to 4 p.m. at the park's environmental studies area, 2900 31st St. S.

Students will learn through soldier stories about military events from 1501 to the present. There will be hourly weapons demonstrations and replica military camps will be on display.

Goodwill is collecting new, used books for kids

Goodwill Industries Suncoast is seeking donations of new or gently used books to distribute to children as part of its Bookworks reading program.

Bookworks brings together volunteer readers and children to promote childhood literacy. Volunteers read to groups at Head Start centers, welfare transition offices and other locations. After the story time, each child is given a personalized book to take home.

Canterbury School plans open house for parents

The Canterbury School of Florida invites parents interested in enrolling children in grades six through 12 to an open house Monday at its secondary school campus, 901 58th Ave. NE. Teachers and administrators will present an overview of the program and will be available to answer questions.
