Man convicted in 1984 slaying to die Dec. 8By Times staff writer © St. Petersburg Times, published November 15, 2000 Gov. Jeb Bush on Tuesday signed a death warrant for Robert Dewey Glock II, who faces execution on Dec. 8 for his conviction in 1984 for kidnapping and murdering Sharilyn Richie in an orange grove near Dade City. Glock was sentenced to death in May 1984 and his case has been in court for the past 16 years. With Bush's signature on the death warrant, Florida State Prison Warden James Crosby set Glock's execution for 6 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 8. On Aug. 16, 1983, Glock and Carl Puiatti kidnapped Richie from a Bradenton shopping mall, stole money from her and drove her to Dade City. They dropped her off in the orange grove and drove off, but later decided to kill her. The men drove back to where they dropped Richie off and Puiatti shot her twice. They left again, but saw her get up. The two men came back, and Glock shot her again, killing her. Both men were sentenced to death. Former Gov. Bob Martinez signed Glock's first death warrant in 1988, but a federal court stayed the execution. The case appeared in several appeals courts until Oct. 2, when the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear the case. Puiatti remains on death row, and his case still is being reviewed in federal courts. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
