USF men's basketball

COACH: Seth Greenberg (56-60, fifth season; 161-130 overall).

1999-2000 RECORD: 17-14, 8-8 in C-USA (tied for fourth).

LAST SEASON: The Bulls were picked to win the C-USA National Division and head to the NCAA Tournament by several national preseason publications, but it didn't pan out. The Bulls opened 0-2, then won nine of their next 11 games. With NCAA Tournament hopes on the line, the Bulls lost five of their last six but did make the NIT for the first time in five seasons.

RETURNING STARTERS: B.B. Waldon, F, 6-8 Jr. (17.3 ppg, 7.9 rpg); Cedric Smith, F, 6-6 Sr. (9.8 ppg, 6.6 rpg); Reggie Kohn, G, 6-1 So. (7.6 ppg, 2.2 rpg); Chonsey Asbury, F, 6-7 6 ppg, 3.7 rpg).

TOP RETURNEES/NEWCOMERS: Altron Jackson, F, 6-6 Jr. (18.2 ppg, 4.6 rpg); Artha Reeves, F/C, 6-8 Sr. (5.5 ppg, 3.2 rpg). Mike Bernard, C, 6-11 Jr., Gerrick Morris, F, 6-10 Fr.

QUESTION MARKS: With Jackson, Waldon, Asbury and a roster full of other good shooters, the biggest questions are post play and defense. Greenberg said the Bulls have the capability to put together a strong inside presence for the first time in many years, but the post players are untested.

GAME PLAN: Two things will be crucial to the success of this team: scoring and playing defense. Led by big-time scorers Waldon and Jackson, the Bulls were 12-3 last season when they scored at least 75 points, but the defense didn't always come to their aid. Having a healthy Asbury back eventually should be a great boost on defense. Waldon, who has proven he can score inside, has to be more of a defensive threat to help out the inexperienced post players.

FUN FACT: Waldon and Jackson will be Web site heroes this season. Fans can get up to date information by logging on to the Bulls' Web site (www.gousfbulls.com) and clicking on the link for the "Dynamic Duo."

SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS: The Bulls venture into the wilderness with the Top of the World Classic in Fairbanks, Alaska, and make a return visit to Greenberg's home state of New York with a game against Fordham. Texas is coming to town and the Bulls also host C-USA powers Cincinnati, DePaul, Louisville and Memphis.

HOME COURT: Sun Dome (10,411), Tampa.

TICKET INFORMATION: Available at Level 2 of the Sun Dome. Season tickets are $155, $140 for faculty and staff and $100 for seniors. Single-game tickets are $12, $8 for children 16 and under and seniors 65 and older -- with the exception of four games. Tickets for the Cincinnati, Louisville, Memphis and DePaul games are $15, $11 for children 16 and under and seniors 65 and older. USF students admitted free with valid I.D.
