Highs and lows

High

RICH McKAY: The Buccaneers general manager has been pretty savvy in locking up the team's talented defenders for the long term. His latest move was to sign defensive lineman Marcus Jones to a seven-year deal. Somewhere down the road, the salary cap might blow up on the Bucs, but so far, so good.

THE DEVIL RAYS: The team hosted about 300 people from area homeless shelters Wednesday, feeding them a Thanksgiving meal. It's one of many good works by the area's professional teams over the holidays. Look for the Lightning's blood drive Wednesday at the Ice Palace.

JOE GIBBS: With Tony Stewart winning the Pennzoil 400 and Bobby Labonte clinching the Winston Cup title, it proved to be a super Sunday at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Low

HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS: Their 1,270-game winning streak comes to an end. Finally, a team prepares for the ol' confetti-in-the-water-bucket trick. Red Klotz would've been proud.

VINCE NAIMOLI: The Devil Rays owner will save -- wow! -- nearly $2,400 this year in real estate taxes after hiring a lawyer, commissioning his own appraisal of his 14,368-square-foot home in Avila and getting the $3.8-million assessment reduced to $3.433-million. Hey, a couple of thousand here, a few grand there and, before you know it, he'll have enough to make a bid for Alex Rodri- ... , uhh, never mind.

BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES RANKING: Insert your own recount joke here.
