Rivar's big payoff in VegasBy KRIS HUNDLEY© St. Petersburg Times, published November 19, 2001 When you're one of 2,000 exhibitors on the floor of the giant Comdex technology show in Las Vegas, anything that gives your product prominence is welcome. So Gene Savar, president and chief executive of Rivar Technologies Inc. in Clearwater, was practically delirious to be named a finalist last week in Comdex's Best of Show competition. Rivar's Code:Neo product was picked in the best Internet software category. The software, used by Web developers and servers, makes Internet sites run faster. Finalists in the software category, which was won by Browse3D Corp., were selected by editors of Network World magazine. "The nomination gives us international publicity and validates our technology as being among the best in the nation," said Savar, who has about a dozen employees in Clearwater. "Our booth is mobbed." Savar said his coworkers were so busy demonstrating the company's software that they had little spare time to gamble in Vegas' casinos. "That's okay," he said. "They gambled enough when they came to work for me 18 months ago." © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
