Casey and Celina want warm wear, games, musicBy Times staff writer© St. Petersburg Times, published November 19, 2001 Casey, code number 2590, is an intelligent boy who likes to read the Harry Potter books. He is 10 years old and wears size 12-14 shirts, size 12 husky pants and 51/2 shoes. His favorite color is red. Casey enjoys Scooby Doo, Veggie Tales and playing with handheld electronic games. Among his holiday wishes are a watch and accessories for his bike such as a radio, streamers, and spoke decorations. Casey's greatest need is some warm winter clothes like a sweat suit, and his special wish is a building set. But his greatest wish is for a permanent home. Casey is a sweet child who has been shuffled through several temporary homes this year, and he would like to spend next Christmas with a family he can call his own. Celina, code number 8711, is a bright girl who is 11 years old. A learning disability affects her reading skills. Although she is in fourth grade, she reads at a third-grade level. She does not have a tape or CD player but loves Christian music. Either a player or some music would be a welcome gift. Also, Celina is receiving free guitar lessons but does not have her own guitar. If you have an unused acoustic guitar gathering dust, she could use it. She wears a girls size 12 shirt, 14 pants and a size 4 shoe. Like most of the children, she needs winter clothes. Her favorite color is blue, and she likes the Seminoles and reading Bible stories. Other possible gifts might be a watch, art supplies or a handheld electronic game. Several requests have been made for beds and sheets, especially toddler beds that use crib sheets. If you have an outgrown toddler bed that needs a coat of paint, it would be welcome. If you can't sponsor a child for Christmas, perhaps you could help the resource center add warm clothes to their gift pack by purchasing a pack of underwear, new socks and other clothing. Many of these children seldom receive new clothes, so something new helps raise their self-esteem. The resource center holiday shop is on E Thomas Street near Accent Carpet. There is a sign at the corner of Fall Way and State Road 44. Donations of cash, new unwrapped toys, clothing and gift certificates for food from area stores are always welcome. Editor's Note: As the holidays approach, several local organizations seek gifts, clothing and other items for needy children and families through the Citrus County Family Resource Center, which helped more than 1,300 people last year. lf you would like to help these children or others, call 344-1001. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
