ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands -- Florida State defeated Dayton 63-60 in the championship game of the Paradise Jam Tournament on Tuesday.

With a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds, Shinikki Whiting led FSU and was the tournament MVP. April Traylor made the all-tournament team.

"I am very pleased to win two games on a neutral floor early in the season," coach Sue Semrau said. "I think we learned a lot about ourselves and came closer together as a unit."

There were nine lead changes and seven ties. Florida State had a sluggish start and fell behind by six, but nine turnovers in the first half led to nine FSU points.
