Friday begins the official flurry of holiday shopping. If you must ship your purchases, look to office supply and discount stores for padded envelopes, bubble wrap, foam packing peanuts, mailing tubes, tape and boxes of all sizes. Other fun packaging can be found in supermarkets, drug, discount and party stores, even music shops.

This idea, borrowed from a favorite arts and crafts shop, takes little time and looks spectacular: We used a gallon-size food storage bag (10 by 14 inches, 75 for $1.49 for a store brand) to hold items wrapped in bright tissue paper (20 inches by 26 inches, 10 sheets for $1.69, discount stores; prices may vary) and tied with curling ribbon (20 yards, 79 cents, discount stores; prices may vary). Voila!
