YMCA sponsors midnight basketball

The Brandon Family YMCA, 3097 S Kingsway Road, is sponsoring a midnight basketball game open to the community. Players ages 13-18 must arrive by 9:30 p.m. Dec. 1 for team selections. Games will be played from 9 p.m. to midnight. For information, call (813) 685-5402.

Village Players perform musical

The Village Players will present a community theater production of the Broadway musical You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown. Performances will be held at 8:15 p.m. today and Saturday at the Valrico Civic Center on Fifth Street. Tickets are $10. For information, call (813) 685-1664.

Military Ball scheduled for Dec. 7

American Legion Post 246 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1288 will co-sponsor a Military Ball at Sun City Center Community Hall, 1910 S Pebble Beach Blvd. Cocktails will begin at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 7, with dinner at 6 p.m. Musical entertainment will be provided by the Sun City Center Big Band. Attire for the dinner dance is semiformal, uniform or black tie optional. Tickets are $30 per person. Business professionals host celebration

The West Coast Business Professionals group will host its third annual Holiday Celebration from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 5. The event will be held at the DoubleTree Guest Suites, 3050 N Rocky Point Drive W. The celebration will include dinner, a gift exchange ($10 limit), a silent auction (no dollar limit on your donated items) and lots of networking. The organization is a member affiliate of the National Association for Female Executives. The cost for members is $15, and $20 for guests. Reservation deadline is Dec. 1. Franciscan Center plans holiday programs

Franciscan Center, 3010 Perry Ave., has planned a series of holiday programs. Advent evening prayer will be held each Monday in Advent from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. beginning next week and continuing through Dec. 18. Donations will be accepted. The annual Blessing of the Christmas Creche will begin at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1. Bring an article from your Nativity scene to be blessed. Also, the Advent Retreat will start at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 and continue through Dec. 3. Cost per person for a shared room is $98 and $120 for a private room. For information, call (813) 229-2695.

School to sponsor Christmas Festival

Santa will arrive in a hot air balloon at the fourth annual Christmas Festival sponsored by Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran School, 304 Druid Hills Road. The family celebration will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 2 and will showcase the school to the community. Other highlights will include games and a silent and live auction, Candy Cane Lane and a class basket raffle emceed by J.P. Peterson of WFLA-Ch. 8. The school's band and choir will perform favorite holiday music. Also, there will be arts and crafts to view and home-baked goods at the cake walk. Sponsors sought for "Dress Down AIDS'

The People With AIDS Coalition of Tampa Bay, a grass-roots non-profit organization, is seeking sponsors for "Dress Down AIDS Tampa Bay." In observance of World AIDS Day on Dec. 1, area businesses are asked to have a casual dress day for their employees who are willing to make a minimum donation of $5. The coalition provides information to its members on a variety of subjects from nutrition, insurance, drug therapies, continuing education and changes in government issues related to the disease.
