H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute is now offering a Senior Adult Oncology Program. Patients undergo a comprehensive geriatric assessment that considers other diseases patients may have, medications they take, nutritional habits, social situations, living situations and cognitive functions. Seniors can learn how to leave a legacy through a 16-week Personal Life History writing class beginning at 10 a.m. Jan. 4 at Heritage Village, 11909 125th St. N, Largo. Classes provide instruction and encouragement in writing, pictures, graphics, cover design and many other areas required to produce a book. Class fee is $50. For registration, call (727) 725-2889.
The Long-Term Care Ombudsman Councils of the Tampa Bay area seek volunteers to serve as advocates to residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities to investigate and resolve resident complaints.
Volunteer's responsibilities may include periodic inspection of facilities and travel expenses to and from facilities will be reimbursed. Prospective ombudsmen should be free from a conflict of interest and will be interviewed before selection by local council members.
The councils also are seeking specialized volunteers such as licensed pharmacists and social workers, elder law attorneys and registered dietitians.

The Suncoast Health Council will hold a free forum and relaxation period for caregivers of adult stroke survivors 9 a.m.-1 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Walter Fuller Recreation Center, 7891 26th Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Fun and relaxing activities include massages, makeovers, manicures, pedicures, water aerobics, lap swimming, pet therapy and more. Presentation topics include "Lighten Up With Laughter," "Accessing the Internet" and "Stroke Survivor Rehabilitation Strategies." Registration required; limited to 100 participants.
