A new Redington Shores market features surf-to-turf seafood and more than 120 labels of wine, including its own.

REDINGTON SHORES -- The Reef opened Tuesday, selling fresh seafood unloaded off boats in the back and more than 120 labels of wine.

The new store is a retail operation for Nachman's Native Seafood, a wholesaler at the rear of the building at 17811 Gulf Blvd.

Rick Meyer owns the retail operation, and Tim Nachman, the wholesale business, which sells to area restaurants. The two have known each other for about 20 years, Meyer said. This is his second wine and fish store.

"I owned Meyer's Last Stand in Madeira Beach for 12 years," he said. He started it as a seafood market and then got into wines. He sold the business in 1991 and went into real estate, which he will continue.

Nachman said Meyer found him the site for his wholesale business, which he has owned for more than two years.

The Reef will sell the seafood brought in by the boats. Meyer said he is after a local clientele, but if tourists or seasonal residents stop in, that will be even better.

"All the fish is fresh. It comes in the back door," Meyer said. "I want to be the local fish market and the local wine market."

Meyer said he will stock California, French and German wines. The shop will have a Merlot under its own label.

Nachman said the business does custom cutting of its fish and can smoke mullet, amberjack, mahi mahi and tuna. During the holidays, the business also will smoke turkeys and hams and, during the summer, pigs.
