Bulletin boardBy CONNIE DREW © St. Petersburg Times, published November 29, 2000 Carrollwood/Northdale/OdessaBusiness association plans tree-lighting festivalThe Carrollwood Area Business Association will host its 10th annual Holiday Tree Lighting Festival from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Carrollwood Village Shopping Center on N Dale Mabry Highway at Fletcher Avenue. Festivities will begin with a children's parade around the shopping center; children are invited to dress up in Christmas costumes. The event will feature music, food and a Fantasy Forest for kids. Throughout the evening, local churches and school groups will perform. Children can tell their holiday wishes to Santa at a free visit. Pictures can be taken with Santa for $3. Ruskin/Sun City CenterComputer club to hold software demonstrationThe Computer Club in Sun City Center will meet at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 6 at the Community Hall, 1910 S Pebble Beach Blvd. Matt McCann will give a demonstration of QUICKEN 2001, the latest version of the popular financial software. Catholic Charities sponsors support groupCatholic Charities, 2021 E Busch Blvd., sponsors Rheumatoid Arthritis Support Group meetings from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. the first Thursday of each month. Tampa General Hospital's Pain Management Program will give a presentation at the next potluck luncheon Dec. 7. The free meeting is open to people with rheumatoid arthritis and their families. For information, call (813) 631-4370. Society, museum plan holiday dinner, awardsThe Tampa Historical Society and the Henry B. Plant Museum will host a holiday dinner and D.B. McKay Award ceremony. The event will be in the Grand Salon at the University of Tampa, 401 W Kennedy Blvd. Guests can enjoy the magic of Christmas past at the museum's Victorian Christmas Stroll from 6 to 7 p.m. Dec. 7. Cocktails are at 7 p.m., followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m featuring classical piano music reliving the elegance of Mr. Plant's resort hotel. Larry Eugene Rivers, professor of history at Florida A & M University, is this year's recipient of the McKay Award. The cost is $100 per individual patron, $750 per patron table of 10 or $50 per individual guest. Patrons will be given priority seating. Seating is limited. Humane Society to host tree-lighting ceremonyThe Humane Society of Tampa Bay, 3607 N Armenia Ave., will hold its annual tree-lighting ceremony at 7 p.m. Dec. 7. The event will feature the Holiday Tree of Love for participants to have a special ornament placed on the tree to symbolize the number of shelter animals around the world who were not adopted. Donations are $5 for an ornament and $10 for a luminary (with pet's name), which will light the way to the Humane Society. Deadline is Monday. For information, call (813) 876-7138. Deadline is Monday for mini-retreatThe Franciscan Center, 3010 Perry Ave., is having a conscious contact mini-retreat from 5 to 8 p.m. Dec. 6. Sister Catherine Cahill and Sister Naureen Marie Kelly will present the program "Doing the Will of God" following 12-step spirituality. The mini-retreat will also include time for quiet, discussion, dinner and prayer. Mass will begin at 4 p.m. The deadline to register is Monday. The cost is $18 per person.
