U.S. Navy Chief Petty Officer Paul J. Beach, son of Judge Robert E. Beach and Shirley Duclos of St. Petersburg, was promoted to his present rank while stationed aboard the nuclear attack submarine USS L. Mendel Rivers.

Beach was aboard the submarine when it completed its last tour of duty. He re-enlisted for his final four-year tour as the submarine surfaced at the North Pole after charting parts of the ocean floor.

He joined the Navy in 1982 after graduating from Dixie Hollins High School.

U.S. Navy Fireman Frank Trinkaus, son of Joseph and Peggy Trinkaus of St. Petersburg, completed basic training and fireman training at the naval recruit training station in Great Lakes, Ill.

A 2000 graduate of Pinellas Park High School criminal justice academy, Trinkaus is assigned to the aircraft carrier USS John F. Kennedy in Mayport.

U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Pfc. Phillip L. Cash, son of Gloria D. Cash of St. Petersburg and Leeroy Cash of Lula, Ga., reported for duty with Marine Aviation Training Support Group, Naval Technical Training Center, Meridian, Miss.

Cash is a 1998 graduate of North Hall High School, Gainesville, Ga.

U.S. Coast Guard Fireman Apprentice Nicholas J. Manarino graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard recruit training center in Cape May, N.J., and was promoted to his present rank.

Manarino is a 1999 graduate of Dixie Hollins High School.

U.S. Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Alim O. Muhammad, son of Halimah W. Abdullah of St. Petersburg, has been assigned to the aircraft carrier USS George Washington. His ship recently assisted in the recovery effort of Gulf Air Flight 072.

Muhammad, a 1991 graduate of Gibbs High School, joined the Navy in June 1991.
