Pirates star Trenary waits for college offer
By CAREY FREEMAN CRYSTAL RIVER -- Quarterback or defensive back? Big school or small program? Immediate playing time or a year as a redshirt? It really doesn't matter to Crystal River's Clayton Trenary. "I'm just ready to get to college," Trenary said. "I just want to play somewhere." Where the Pirates quarterback/defensive back will end up is the question. Trenary's most dedicated suitors seem to be the University of Florida and Central Florida, which have been maintaining regular contact for months. Trenary has been invited and attended games at both campuses this season, and he has received phone calls and personal visits from Gators and Knights recruiters. However, neither school has offered a scholarship. "I've been talking to the same people," said Trenary, who attended the Florida-Florida State game two weeks ago on an invitation from the Gators. "Florida is talking to me ... but nobody has offered yet. "I'm not worried," he said. "As long as I get to play somewhere." The 6-foot, 190-pound Trenary just completed his fourth season as Crystal River's starting quarterback, amassing 1,184 yards and 12 touchdowns. As a safety, he had 107 tackles and three interceptions. BLEAKLEY UPDATE: Pirates tight end/defensive end Will Bleakley (6-3, 210) has garnered some interest after a superb senior season. Bleakley, who led the county with 8 sacks and finished with 101 tackles and 6 receiving touchdowns, has drawn some looks from UCF, Jacksonville and the Coast Guard Academy in recent weeks. "UCF has invited him over there, and he's had several calls from their assistants," said Bleakley's father, Bob. "The Coast Guard Academy has been calling once a week, though. They really want him up there." © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
