New in town
Vegas Nite Club revamps the huge space of Korean steakery Sam Woen (it holds 500) and fills it with a stir fry of attractions: a stage, dance floor, cigar and martini bars, dining room for steak and seafood. 8680 Park Blvd., Seminole; (727) 319-6733. Vegas still has the sushi bar and will add a Korean menu; music ranges from techno to '70s.
New source of ribs, pork and smoked chicken is Lip Smackers' Alabama Barbecue, courtesy of guys who got their taste of 'cue up north in Fort Payne. 2745 E Bay, Largo; (727) 538-2200.
Vince Fortunato, whose pizza draws lines out the door at lunch, adds to downtown St. Petersburg's plate with Fortunato's After Dark, 263 Central Ave., St. Petersburg; (727) 898-4882. It seats 70 next door for drinks and food from prosciutto and melon to pasta, gourmet pizza and blackboard specials.
I'll have another. . .
2001 Beaujolais nouveau. It's no one-day wonder just for Nov. 15; there's plenty left, and it's good stuff for bistros or burgers. Despite a summer of weather as dicey as the Bucs' second half -- too cold, then too hot, and even hail -- the best pulled out winners. Some are weak and flabby, but Drouhin and DuBoeuf's Buffavent are my faves so far. They taste like cherries and pepper, smell like flowers and feel like chocolate.
