Wife charged with trying to sneak tobacco into jail

BROOKSVILLE -- A 38-year-old Spring Hill woman was arrested at the Hernando County Jail Wednesday after she tried to give her husband tobacco during a visit, authorities said.

Authorities charged Ann Mary Margaret Tran of 5095 Pacific Ave. with introducing contraband into the jail after corrections officers discovered that her husband, Scott Outlaw, who is being held on charges of drunken driving and violating parole, was trying to conceal something in his buttocks during visitation: 11.1 grams of tobacco wrapped in plastic.

Authorities said that Tran admitted to bringing the tobacco to her husband and that he did not know in advance. Outlaw told authorities that he only tried to take the tobacco because he did not want his wife to get in trouble.

Tran was released Wednesday on $2,000 bail.

Teen cited in accident that injures woman

BROOKSVILLE -- On Ponce De Leon Boulevard Wednesday after 8 p.m., a 16-year-old motorist collided with a car driven by a New Port Richey woman, who was taken by helicopter to St. Joseph's Hospital in Tampa, authorities said.

Marina Cotrone, 16, of Groveland Street in Masaryktown, was turning from Ponce De Leon Boulevard onto Oakdale Avenue when she collided with Terri Lewis, 38, who was driving south on Ponce De Leon Boulevard, said police Sgt. Ron Woods.

Lewis was listed in good condition at St. Joseph's on Thursday.

Brooksville police cited Cotrone with violation of right away and failure to display a driver's license on demand, Woods said.
