Center Place presents art show, doll show

An exhibition of watercolors by wildlife artist Bill Scott will be on display at Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association throughout the month. The public is invited to a meet-the-artist reception from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday hosted by the Brandon League of Fine Arts at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Drive. The exhibition, "Everglades -- A Visual Dialog," reflects the self-taught artist's special interest in the Everglades through his watercolor and acrylic paintings. Also, showcases of Center Place will feature "Simpich Dolls" from the collection of Mary Louise Schmehl. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday or by appointment. Admission is free Saturday at MOSI

Hillsborough County Commissioners are sponsoring a free day at the Museum of Science and Industry, 4801 E Fowler Ave., from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday. The public is invited to visit and enjoy the IMAX films Amazon or Mission to Mir, which will be shown every hour beginning at 9:30 a.m. with the last showing at 7:30 p.m. Amazon will be shown in Spanish at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available for film showings on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests will not have a choice of films. Other highlights of the day will include the "Teddy Bears and Trains" exhibit featuring kid-sized trains transporting kids through a fantasyland of toy soldiers, giant candy canes and lollipops. In addition, there is a new exhibit, "O is is for Oranges," that teaches science and math concepts. Parking is available on site, and there is overflow parking at Greco Park on 50th Street and at the USF Sun Dome. For information, call (813) 987-6100.

Financial workshop offered for women

Financial planner David Lawrence will conduct a workshop for women at The Centre For Women, 305 S Hyde Park Ave., from 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 11. The workshop, "Financial Power For Women," will explore the tools and techniques of achieving financial independence through the use of a budget, goal setting, investments and financial monitoring systems. UT Collegiate Chorale to perform Sunday

The University of Tampa Collegiate Chorale will perform at the 15th annual Family Christmas Festival at 4 p.m. Sunday. The holiday favorite will be held at Sacred Heart Church at Florida Avenue at Twiggs Street. Other featured performers will include the Mostly Pops Orchestra and the newly formed Women's Glee Club. Early arrivals will hear familiar melodies played on organ and piano starting at 3 p.m. Admission is free; donations will be accepted. For information, call (813) 253-3333, ext. 3344.
