PETERSBURG -- Women and minorities who own businesses are invited to meet with purchasing directors from several government agencies and four nearby community colleges from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 7 at the Music Center at the St. Petersburg Junior College, Gibbs Campus, 6605 Fifth Ave. N, St. Petersburg. Speakers will discuss how to become a college vendor, the bidding process, upcoming college construction projects and purchases, and educational opportunities for business owners and their employees. New insulin pen to be demonstratedCLEARWATER -- A demonstration and program on the new Humalog MIX 75/25 insulin pen will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Largo Medical Center's Diabetes Education Center, 1300 S Fort Harrison Ave., Clearwater. The pen requires no vials, syringes or refrigeration after its first use. This program and demonstration are for people with Type 2 diabetes who aretaking 70/30 or NPH insulin. Ovarian cancer to be topic of 'Lunch with the Doctor'LARGO -- The diagnosis and treatment of ovarian cancer will be the topic discussed by Dr. Louis Paolillo at the Dec. 7 "Lunch with the Doctor" program at Largo Medical Center, 201 14th St. SW. Equither Inc. to host fundraiser Dec. 5CLEARWATER -- Equither Inc. will have a fundraiser, "Stroll Down Memory Lane," from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 in the Grand Ballroom and gardens of the Kapok Pavilion, formerly the Kapok Tree Restaurant, 923 McMullen-Booth Road, Clearwater. There will be a silent auction and desserts furnished by several local bakeries. Equither is a non-profit organization that provides therapeutic horseback riding for children and adults with disabilities. Hospital auxiliary seeks donationsCLEARWATER -- The Morton Plant Hospital Auxiliary is seeking donations for the 19th annual Holiday Lights celebration at the hospital, 300 Pinellas St., Clearwater. A public tree-lighting ceremony for the seven-story "tree of lights" next to Morton Plant Hospital will be at 6 p.m. Dec. 6 in the hospital's parking lot. Lights can be purchased in honor of a loved one for $5 each. The auxiliary will send a holiday card to the honoree or his or her family and the names will be displayed in the hospital lobby. Youth literacy program needs children's booksCLEARWATER -- Children's books are needed by the Pinellas County Rolling Readers, a youth literacy program that helps youngsters in the county school system.
