Holiday spirit dominates weekend
By JORGE SANCHEZ Christmas parades, outdoor festivals and live music are the ornaments decorating this weekend. The Beverly Hills Christmas parade begins at 10 a.m. today. The parade theme is a Cartoon Christmas, and various cartoon characters will roll down the parade route, which starts at Beverly Hills Boulevard and ends at Civic Circle Drive. Later tonight, the Crystal River Christmas parade begins at 6 p.m. The parade route is south along U.S. 19 through downtown. The parade can only be viewed from the west side of the highway. Parking lots along the route will provide the best views. In Floral City, the annual Floral City Heritage Days festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today. The festival presents folk art and historic exhibits, along with a tour of the town's historic homes, live music and plenty of great food. The folk art displays will be in the field next to the Church of Christ on Marvin Avenue, along with the two musical stages. The food is served at the pavilion and the menu includes barbecued pork, chicken and ribs, along with many delicious side dishes. The Floral City Garden Club is sponsoring a cake walk at the Memorial Garden on Orange Avenue.
