Modin's status uncertain for 3 games on road

TAMPA -- Lightning forward Fredrik Modin will miss at least three to five days with a deep bruise to his right quadriceps muscle, sustained in Thursday's 5-2 win against Atlanta.

Modin left with the team Friday for its three-game road trip. He was injured in a collision with the Thrashers Ilya Kovalchuk Thursday.

"I just turned up and I didn't even see him coming," Modin said. "I turned up, and I felt him just slam my leg."

Modin, also bothered by inflammation in his left elbow, is the team's second-leading scorer with 16 points (6 goals, 10 assists). He has two goals and four assists in a five-game scoring streak.

Because center Brian Holzinger (rotator cuff tear) is not ready, Tampa Bay likely will skate seven defensemen tonight at Philadelphia. Forward Matthew Barnaby should see increased ice time on a line with Brad Richards and Martin St. Louis.
