By Times staff reports Dade City man arrested after high-speed chaseDADE CITY -- A man driving a pickup truck was arrested early Friday morning after a 23-mile high-speed chase into Sumter County, Pasco sheriff's deputies said. At 12:23 a.m., a deputy tried to stop a Chevrolet pickup, which had run a red light at U.S. 301 and Lock Street, a deputy report states. The driver sped away. Driver William Bryan Pelfrey, 33, of 40830 Melrose Ave. in Zephyrhills faces charges of fleeing and attempting to elude and driving with a suspended license, the report states. For 22 minutes, the deputy chased Pelfrey at speeds up to 95 mph, the report states. They went north on 301 and east on Sumter County Road 478 into Webster. A Webster police officer laid out a device that flattened Pelfrey's two front tires, the report states. With two flat tires, Pelfrey turned south on Sumter County Road 471 and sideswiped a Webster officer before crashing his pickup into a parked car, the report states. According to the report, Pelfrey told the deputy he sped away because he had a suspended license and didn't want to go to jail. Pelfrey was taken to Sumter County jail, where he remained Saturday afternoon. Man accused of lewd acts on a childNEW PORT RICHEY -- A 36-year-old man was arrested Friday after police said he had a 5-year-old girl help him masturbate. Marvin Lee Short, 36, of 5740 Wyoming Ave. faces a charge of lewd and lascivious acts on a child under 16, police said. Short was being held Saturday at county jail in Land O'Lakes in lieu of $20,000 bail.
