Residents worried about store signs
By JAMES THORNER WESLEY CHAPEL -- A core of vocal Wesley Chapel residents are upset about the appearance of shopping centers under construction on Bruce B. Downs Boulevard. On Tuesday, residents will share their concerns with officials from SuperTarget. The company is within months of opening a combination discount store and supermarket at Bruce B. Downs and County Line Road. At the urging of residents, the Pasco County Development Review Committee denied SuperTarget a variance to nearly double the proposed size of its wall signs at the new store. SuperTarget representative argued that the current rules do not consider multiple uses of single stores. SuperTarget, for example, is a grocery store and a discount store. It also has a pharmacy and bakery. SuperTarget officials planned to appeal the decision to the county commissioners but first wanted to bring residents around to their point of view. The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the New Tampa Regional Library at 10001 Cross Creek Blvd. in northern Hillsborough. Imitating what's already been done on the Hillsborough side of Bruce B. Downs, Pasco officials are preparing a road beautification plan for Bruce B. Downs stressing smaller business signs, more trees and prettier architecture. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • Tampa Bay Times
