Center plans lighting of Christmas tree

The Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Drive, will be the site of the lighting of the Christmas tree at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday . The program will include "Seraphim" the children's bell choir of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, dancers from Kim Hall's School of Dance, vocalists from "Brandon Spotlights," and "The Ambassadors" choral group of Bloomingdale High School.

The evening will conclude with a visit by Santa and Mrs. Claus. Refreshments will be served and the entire community is invited to attend this event. For information, call (813) 685-8888.

Artventures classes planned for local children

Doreen Myers will offer a class for children ages 6 through 10 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. on Thursday and Dec. 14 at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Drive.

Children can create their own design to be painted on a glass plate. This two-week session is $14 for members and $19 for non-members. For information, call (813) 685-8888.

Public meeting to discuss location for library, school

Hillsborough County staff and the Hillsborough County School Board will hold a joint public meeting regarding the proposed site for the South County Regional Library and future middle school. The meeting is at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday in the cafeteria of Cypress Creek Elementary School, 4040 NE 19th Ave. For information, call (813) 272-5275.

Buccaneers players serve as hosts for blood drive

Tyoka Jackson, Chidi Ahanotu, John Lynch and Anthony McFarland are hosting a blood and bone marrow drive and will sign autographs for blood donors from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Sack's Seafood Grill and House of Jazz, 5401 W Kennedy Blvd., in the Humana Building/Lincoln Center. 2000 health and fitness expo set for weekend

In conjunction with the 2000 Hops Marathon by the Bay, there will be a Family Health and Fitness Expo from noon to 8 p.m. on Friday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday. The event will be at the Tampa Convention Center, 333 S Franklin St. It is free and open to the public. Call (813) 274-8511.

Library to host cookie swap Tuesday

Bring two or three dozen of your favorite cookies to share at the "cookie swap" at the West Tampa Branch Library, 1718 N Howard Ave. The event will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Participants can swap recipes and good cheer. For information, call (813) 273-3674.

'Ask a genealogist' program set at library

Volunteers from the Florida Genealogical Society will show beginners how to start their research. The program, "Ask a Genealogist," will also offer hints to more experienced genealogists. The group will meet from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Dec. 16 at the John F. Germany Public Library, 900 N Ashley Drive. For information, call (813) 273-3652.
