Business owners invited to meeting Thursday

ST. PETERSBURG -- Women and minorities who own businesses are invited to meet with purchasing directors from several government agencies and four nearby community colleges from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Music Center at the St. Petersburg Junior College, Gibbs Campus, 6605 Fifth Ave. N, St. Petersburg.
Speakers will discuss how to become a college vendor, the bidding process, upcoming college construction projects and purchases, and educational opportunities for business owners and their employees. New insulin pen to be demonstrated Tuesday
CLEARWATER -- A demonstration and program on the new Humalog MIX 75/25 insulin pen will be from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Largo Medical Center's Diabetes Education Center, 1300 S Fort Harrison Ave., Clearwater. The pen requires no vials, syringes or refrigeration after its first use. This program and demonstration are for people with Type 2 diabetes who are taking 70/30 or NPH insulin. A physician will be present to answer questions. Limited seating.
Nursing center seeking donations of Christmas gifts
CLEARWATER -- The Gulf Coast Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 905 S Highland Ave., is seeking Christmas gift donations for its approximately 65 residents. Most of them do not have any family members. For information, call Evie Frank, activities director, 442-9606.
Volunteers needed to help abused and neglected kids
CLEARWATER -- Gulf Coast Community Care, a non-profit and non-denominational organization, is seeking volunteers 30 or older to work with abused and neglected children. In its Permanency Support Program, the agency places volunteers with children ages 3-11 who live in state-sanctioned foster homes.
Volunteers are asked to spend between two and four hours a week with one child. The volunteer and child might participate in activities such as reading, fishing and baking.
Both male and female volunteers are needed, particularly in mid and south Pinellas County. For information, call the agency at 538-7460 and ask for Nancy Friedman at ext. 3018 or Polly Fisher at ext. 3014.
