By Times staff reports Body found 40 miles off John's PassTREASURE ISLAND -- The body of an unidentified person was found floating in the gulf about 40 miles west of John's Pass on Saturday, according to the Coast Guard. Officials were notified at 4:45 p.m. that a sport fishing boat reported a body floating nearby. Nearly two weeks ago, a 19-foot boat carrying Marvin Jones and two other men sank near that location. Jeff Dryden, Jack Pyle and Jones were on a fishing trip when waves filled the vessel, crippled the engine and forced the boat underwater. After 38 hours floating in the gulf, Dryden and Pyle, who were strong swimmers, were rescued. Jones, who was not considered a strong swimmer, drowned. It wasn't known Sunday whether the body found Saturday was that of Jones. The body was recovered and sent to the Pinellas County Medical Examiner's office for identification. Officials would not say whether the body was that of a man or a woman. Police think machete was used in slayingST. PETERSBURG -- A man was found dead early Sunday in a stabbing possibly involving a machete, detectives say. St. Petersburg police officers were called to 617 23rd Ave. S to investigate the attack. They found Michael B. Moody, 42, with stab wounds to the upper torso, and he was pronounced dead at the scene. "The detectives are just doing what they do with these types of cases," said Rick Stelljes, police spokesman. "They are still out there looking around and talking to witnesses but (turning up) nothing at this point." No arrest was made as of late Sunday.
