Pasco's Joe Bain and Land O'Lakes' Godfrey Pestana, two of the biggest playmakers in Pasco County football this season, have been picked as the offensive players of the year in District 8 by the Florida Association of Athletic Coaches.
District 8, which includes Pasco, Hernando, Citrus and Sumter counties, picked its senior all-star team and selected Bain first and Pestana second in its offensive player of the year picks.
The defensive player of the year was Hernando's Dee Brown, while South Sumter's A.J. Bryant was picked as the district MVP.
Pestana, a running back, led Pasco County with 1,567 yards on 226 carries in guiding the Gators to a 7-4 record. He scored 21 touchdowns, and went over 4,000 career rushing yards, believed to be a Pasco County record.
Bain caught 31 passes for 573 yards as a wide receiver, seven for touchdowns. He also excelled on defense, picking off five passes and notching a sack among his 46 tackles. He missed one game with an injury.
Joining Pestana and Bain on the district teams were cornerback Ken McCullough of Zephyrhills and Land O'Lakes tight end Sam Weatherford and offensive tackle Jimmy Tuttle.
