TALLAHASSEE -- Shooting guard Guilherme DaLuz scored six of his 17 points in overtime Monday to lead Furman to a 79-74 victory over Florida State in the Leon-County Civic Center.

The Paladins, who have had eight consecutive losing seasons, outshot and outhustled the Seminoles throughout to earn their first win over the Seminoles since Jan. 6, 1962.

FSU coach Steve Robinson had few positives to say about his team.

following Monday's embarrassment.

"Losses like this are pretty gut-wrenching," Robinson said. "Again, guys got to learn that you got to stop people on the defensive end of the floor if you're going to give yourself a chance to win those kind of games."

The Seminoles hit 24 of 54 shots and committed 14 turnovers to drop to 1-5 for the first time since 1959. The team will try to rebound Thursday against South Florida.

With his team Trailing 64-53 with 4:11 left, FSU small forward Antuwan Dixon drove to the basket for an easy layup. The score sparked a 13-2 run in the final minutes of regulation to bring the game into overtime.

Point guard Delvon Arrington hit a jumper in the lane 4:28 seconds into overtime to give FSU its first lead of the game at 68-66. Furman rebounded with 13 points, nine off of free throws, to seal the victory.

"I'm extremely proud of our guys," Furman coach Larry Davis said. "It's a huge win for our program. It's been since 1988 since we beat an ACC team." "I wouldn't say we had too much of a lack of urgency," Dixon said. "I feel we played all right. They just hit a lot of shots."

For the second straight game, FSU was unable to defend the three-point shot. Furman forward Karim Souchu connected on 5-of-10 threes, while shooting guard Anthony Thomas made three. The team was 8-of-18.

The Seminoles made only 1-of-10 three-point attempts.

Dixon made 7-of-10 shots to finish with a team-high 17 points. Freshman forward Michael Joiner scored 14, while center Nigel Dixon contributed 12.
