Youmans picks Tulane

By MIKE READLING

One trip to New Orleans was all East Bay quarterback Bruce Youmans needed to decide Tulane University was the school for him.

Youmans, who had hoped to play quarterback in college, gave up that dream as well as four more recruiting trips to commit to Tulane. East Bay coach Brian Thornton said Youmans was canceling scheduled trips to Iowa State, Ole Miss, Kansas and Georgia Southern, which had recruited him as a quarterback. Tulane wants him to play defensive back.

"He's pretty excited," Thornton said. "He must have had a great visit up there, looking at the visits he passed up."

Youmans finished his first season as quarterback in the Indians' wishbone offense with 380 yards on 83 carries with four touchdowns.
