Mount Vernon school awarded highest honors

Mount Vernon Elementary received a Sunshine Medallion Award, the highest honor of the Sunshine State School Public Relations Association, at a presentation breakfast Nov. 30.

A video produced by 2000 Pinellas County Teacher of the Year Sherrie Lee and technology specialist Charla Pinnow titled Connecting to Parents Through Technology won in the community involvement category.

Palm Harbor high school to present math contest

Palm Harbor University High hosts the 11th annual Pinellas County mathematics team competition Friday from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the school, 1900 Omaha St. The competition covers algebra I, geometry, algebra II, precalculus and calculus.

Sponsored by the Pinellas Council of Teachers of Mathematics and teacher advisers of high school Mu Alpha Theta chapters, the event is expected to attract as many as 500 public and private high school students.

Osceola High students to hold car wash Friday

Osceola High School's chapter of Students Against Destructive Decisions has scheduled a car wash from 2 to 5:30 p.m. Friday at the school, 9751 98th St. N, Seminole. Proceeds will benefit families in need.

Kris Kringle's crafts fair will feature 55 vendors

Most Holy Name School will host Kris Kringle's Arts and Crafts Village Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school, 5806 15th Ave. S, Gulfport.

More than 55 vendors will display craft items. Visitors can stroll through Christmas Tree Alley and walk down Candy Cane Lane, have pictures taken with Santa and enter a raffle to win one of three bicycles. Proceeds will go toward school scholarships.

Service project to benefit spouse abuse center

Students at Bay Point Middle School will sponsor a community service project to benefit the Center Against Spouse Abuse on Saturday at Boyd Hill Nature Park, 1101 Country Club Way S. The park will waive its entrance fee in lieu of a donation made to the center from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
