PINELLAS PARK -- Saturday's holiday parade promises floats, clowns, equestrians, cheerleaders, go-carts, and a host of vehicles from John Deere tractors to a race car.
At least 112 groups will march east on Park Boulevard to ParkSide mall. The procession starts at 58th Street at 6 p.m.
Police at 3 p.m. will stop eastbound traffic from entering Park from 66th Street. All other intersections between 66th Street and U.S. 19 will be closed at 5 p.m. The intersections will reopen about 9 p.m.
Bolstering this year's patriotic flavor, Korean War Veterans Suncoast Chapter 14 has arranged for vehicles from the Korean War and World War II eras, including a 10-ton M-8 armored truck with a 75mm cannon.
Chapter president Sam Farina, 72, drove an M-8 in Europe for two years and said the twin-engine vehicle still can attain speeds of 55 mph.
A larger M-4 tank with rubber treads was scratched from the parade list because of another commitment.
