One-man Christmas show

David Sedaris first recounted his tales of being a Macy's elf in green tights on National Public Radio, then in Barrel Fever: Stories and Essays, and later in another collection, Holidays on Ice. For anyone who has ever held a demeaning job, especially during the holiday shopping season, it rings hilariously, pathetically true. ("You are not a dancer. If you were a real dancer you wouldn't be here. You're an elf and you're going to wear panties like an elf.")

Now SantaLand Diaries has been adapted for the stage as a one-man play, and it's being performed by Richard Stockton Rand in a production for the FSU/Asolo Conservatory for Actor Training. Rand, a movement professor at Purdue, has 13 performances from Wednesday through Dec. 23 in the Asolo's Cook Theatre. Tickets: $11-$19, with day-of-show student rush tickets for $7. (941) 351-8000 or toll-free 1-800-361-8388.

Trio plays a different tune

The Inman Piano Trio will play some infrequently heard works by familiar composers tonight in Tarpon Springs. The program includes Shostakovich's first piano trio, Haydn's Trio in G and Dvorak's Trio in F minor. Other works for piano, violin and cello by these composers are more commonly played.

The Inman, named for a historic neighborhood in Atlanta, includes Beth Newdome, associate concertmaster of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra; David Bjella, principal cello with the Orlando Philharmonic; and pianist Brent Runnels, who was the soloist in Beethoven's Emperor Concerto with the Florida Orchestra five years ago.

The group plays at 7:30 tonight at Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center. Tickets: $12 and $14. (727) 942-5605.
