Nelson climbs win list

DALLAS -- A day after learning he has prostate cancer, Don Nelson got his 938th victory to tie Red Auerbach for fourth on the career list as the Mavericks beat the New York Knicks 94-85 on Wednesday night.

Nelson will continue to run the team despite his cancer. Nelson said before the game that he will explore his options for treatment as soon as possible, then determine how much time he will miss.

During his playing career with the Boston Celtics, Nelson was coached by Auerbach. Nelson received an ovation when a graphic of his record was shown on the Reunion Arena replay board.

Michael Finley had 21 points, Howard Eisley 17 and Steve Nash 14 as all of Dallas' starters scored in double figures.

HEAT 95, NUGGETS 78: A.C. Green had 16 points and 11 rebounds as Miami snapped a four-game home losing streak. Miami has won a season-high three straight. The home skid was the Heat's longest since it dropped seven in 1990.

BUCKS 109, NETS 87: Ray Allen had 30 points, including five straight midway through the fourth quarter after a 24-point lead had dwindled to 12, to lead visiting Milwaukee.

CLIPPERS 93, WIZARDS 88: Lamar Odom and Kenyon Dooling combined for 26 of their 32 points in the fourth quarter as visiting Los Angeles overcame a 20-point deficit.

CAVS 92, BULLS 88: Andre Miller scored 13 after taking a knee to the nose in the third quarter, then iced the game with two free throws with nine seconds left for visiting Cleveland.

HORNETS 91, PACERS 88: David Wesley scored 32, including nine straight in a fourth-quarter run, for host Charlotte.
