Street returns, finishes 34th

After two years away from racing because of leg injuries, a tearful Picabo Street returned to World Cup skiiing Wednesday in Val D'Isere, France, finishing 34th in a super-G won by Regine Cavagnoud of France.

"I'm satisfied with the fact I made it to the finish, and that's all I really expected from myself today," Street said.

Street finished 2.56 seconds behind Cavagnoud, who won her first World Cup super-G title of the season in 1:28.72, ahead of Michaela Dorfmeister of Austria and Carole Montillet of France.

Martina Ertl retained her lead in the overall standings.

Street, 29, was injured after winning the silver medal in the downhill at the 1994 Olympics and the '95 and '96 World Cup titles. She rebounded to win the Olympic super-G in 1998 but was injured a month later. It has taken six operations and more than two years to recover.
