Former South Florida athletic director Paul Griffin was named to the same post at Arkansas State on Thursday.

"Paul Griffin has the level of expertise we want at Arkansas State University," school president Les Wyatt said. "In particular, we were impressed with his record in developing a Division I-A (football) program at the University of South Florida, and his leadership in forming Conference USA."

Griffin, who was at USF from 1986 until his forced resignation in March, had been working as a special consultant to the athletic department at Georgia Tech. He replaces Joe Hollis, who was fired as football coach and interim athletic director on Thanksgiving.

Griffin was forced to resign after allegations he tried to cover up complaints about racial discrimination within the women's basketball program.
