TAMPA -- A record-setting performance is the latest highlight for South Florida's women's basketball program.
The Bulls, 4-24 a season ago, are off to a 7-0 start, punctuated by their dominating performance as host of the Best Western Roundball Classic last weekend.
USF pounded Morris Brown College (Ga.) 124-54 and followed that with a 90-56 thumping of Indiana/Purdue at Indianapolis. The Bulls set school records for points in a game in the Morris Brown victory, eclipsing the record by 14, as well as for margin of victory (70 points), steals (33) and assists (35). Junior guard Aiya Shepard set the USF single-game steal record with 10. Shepard, who leads USF with 18 points a game, has been one of five Bulls scoring in double figures this season.
USF hosts Florida at the Sun Dome on Saturday at 5 p.m.
MEN'S BASKETBALL: B.B. Waldon used two solid performances last week to help the Bulls maintain their unbeaten start and earn co-Conference USA Player of the Week honors. Waldon, a senior forward, shot 73.3 percent from the floor en route to a 23-point performance in a 86-63 win against Prairie View A&M University (Texas). He followed that with his third double-double of the year, and 21st of his career, netting 18 points and 15 rebounds in a 79-59 win against California.
MEN'S SOCCER: After a 15-7 season and a trip to the NCAA tournament, three Bulls were named to the National Soccer Coaches of America Association All-South Region Team. Jason Cudjoe and Troy Perkins were named to the second-team while Jeff Thwaites was named to the third team.
FOOTBALL: Four Bulls were named to the Football News All-Independent Team. Quarterback Marquel Blackwell, guard Jimmy Fitts, defensive end Chris Daley and free safety J.R. Reed were honored by the publication. The Bulls finished 8-3 this year in their first season in Division I.
