Logo gets a tweak; 3rd uniform on way

TAMPA -- The Lightning will sport a new look next season after all.

Though the team will keep its regular uniform and logo, it will showcase a third, or alternate, uniform in a handful of games.

The color scheme will remain generally the same, though red highlights will be added. The logo is being redesigned but still will feature a prominent lightning bolt.

"A final decision won't be made until we see the prototype," team president Ron Campbell said.

The Lightning has explored redesigning its uniform and logo since last summer, in part to boost merchandise sales. But after numerous focus groups and interviews with fans, it was determined the basic uniform and logo should remain. The idea of a third uniform generally was well-received.

The team had a third uniform previously, but it has been phased out.

SME Power Branding of New York is doing the designs. The firm designed the Rangers' alternate uniform that features the Statue of Liberty logo.
