Inverness to host Christmas Parade
By JORGE SANCHEZ The weekend is full of holiday entertainment activities including a parade and several concerts. The Inverness Christmas Parade starts at noon today on Main Street. Marchers start at Citrus High School and finish at Highland Boulevard. The parade will include 20 floats, three local marching bands, many local color guards and marching units and trick riders and bands from the Egypt Temple Shrine. In other weekend activities: The Central Florida Philharmonic Orchestra will perform its holiday program at 3 p.m. today at Curtis Peterson Auditorium at Lecanto High School, off County Road 491 S. Tickets are $15 at the door. Call 746-2002. Cactus Jack and The Cadillacs perform a Christmas show at 7 p.m. today at Rock Crusher Canyon Garden Pavilion, 275 S Rock Crusher Road. The band performs danceable rock 'n' roll music dating from the early 1950s to the late 1960s with a dash of the early '70s. Doors open at 5 p.m., dinner from 6 to 8 p.m. and music starts at 7 p.m. Admission for the dinner show is $18. Call 795-1313. The Jack Daniels Original Silver Cornet Band performs a Christmas show at 3 p.m. Sunday at Curtis Peterson Auditorium at Lecanto High. The musical Hometown Christmas rekindles favorite memories of Christmas. The show features the top-notch cornet band and an actor who sets the scene for each musical number. Tickets at the door are $13. The 11th annual Winter Wonderland Craft Show will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today at the West Citrus Elks Club on Grover Cleveland Boulevard, about 1 mile east of U.S. 19 in Homosassa. The show features works of 40 members of the Citrus County Crafts Council in displays both inside and outside the Elks Lodge. The show will benefit the Day Star Life Center of Citrus County. Each crafter donates items for the raffles, which benefit Day Star Center. Nonperishable food items for holiday baskets and unwrapped toys for Citrus United Basket will also be collected. Free admission. A Christmas toy drive and concert begins at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4337, 906 State Road 44 E, Inverness. The band Hearts of Fire will perform country music, and donations of new toys for Citrus United Basket will be accepted. Free admission. The Citrus County Art League Performing Arts Group presents the final weekend of the comedy Art. Final performances are today and Sunday. Curtain time is 7:30 p.m. today and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
