THE NEIGHBORHOOD: North Shore, developed beginning in 1911 by St. Petersburg pioneers C. Perry Snell and J.C. Hamlett, has long been among the city's premiere residential neighborhoods. The neighborhood stretches from Fifth to 30th avenues and from Tampa Bay to Fourth Street N. Architectural styles include Mediterranean Revival, Craftsman, Queen Anne, Colonial Revival and Italianate along with Florida ranches and contemporary homes. City parks border the neighborhood along Tampa Bay. Homes on the tour include Mediterranean Revival, Colonial Revival, Queen Anne, and bungalows. "Typically we've had about 1,200 people on this tour," said Rick Carson, one of the organizers. "I've had a call from somebody in Orlando who ordered tickets," but most tourgoers come from Pinellas County and from Tampa -- and, of course, from the neighborhood. "People want to know what the neighbors' house is like," Carson said. © 2006 • All Rights Reserved • St. Petersburg Times
