Public comment soughtfor sheriff's office review

Office, which is undergoing a re-accreditation review by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies.

Comments from the public and sheriff's employees are important parts of the review.

The public can comment by phone from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday. Call 582-5816.

Written comments can be sent to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., 110306 Eaton Place, Suite 320, Fairfax, Va. 22030-2201.

The sheriff's office will be under review from today until Wednesday. Experts will inspect the sheriff's office and review the agency's policies and procedures.

The team also will analyze the department's management structure, operations and support services.

Their findings go to the commission, which decides whether the sheriff's office should be re-accredited. The national accreditation is voluntary.

The sheriff's office first was accredited in 1988 and has been re-accredited every three years since.
