Sleep disorders topic of meeting

St. Jude's Mental Health Ministry of the Family Life Committee will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 9 at the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle Parish Center, in the Neumann Room, at 5815 Fifth Ave. N, St. Petersburg.

Guest speaker will be Dr. Neil Feldman. His topic will be sleep disorders.

Episcopal Diocese names new canon

The Rev. Michael P. Durning has been named canon to the ordinary for the Episcopal Diocese of Southwest Florida. Durning will serve as chief operations officer of the diocese, supervising the offices of the treasurer, ministry development and financial development. He will also supervise the director of DaySpring Episcopal Conference Center. Durning, 49, has been in the diocese since 1987.

Church to hold benefit for deacon

Galilee Missionary Baptist Church, 505 35th St. S, will hold a benefit for Deacon Joseph Savage at 4 p.m. Sunday. Various choirs will participate in the program. The Rev. Steve Thomas, pastor of St. John Missionary Baptist Church, will speak.

Savage, a longtime member of Galilee, has been hospitalized since July. He was one of the leaders of the city's 1968 sanitation strike for higher wages and better working conditions.

Support group helps divorced

DivorceCare, a support group for divorced and separated people, will present several seminars from Jan. 9 to April 3. Meetings will be held each Tuesday at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of St. Petersburg, 1900 Gandy Blvd. Child care is provided. Call (727) 576-5508.
