SEMINOLE -- The Okeechobee girls and Miami Coral Reef boys won state championships Saturday at Seminole Lanes in a day highlighted by the first perfect game in the 30-year history of the event.

New Port Richey's Jamie Potter fired 300 for her Mitchell team in the third game of a three-game qualifying set. It was her first perfect game and completed a 722 series that put her squad into the third-round, Baker System rolloff. In Baker, each member of a five-person team rolls two frames per game in the scratch event.

"I can't say every hit was in the pocket because I got very lucky on a couple of shots," Potter said.

Okeechobee defeated Orlando University High in the best-of-five Baker System finals, 3-2. Potter's Mustangs finished third, beaten by University High in the semifinals, and South Dade was fourth.

Miami Coral Reef stopped Largo 3-0 to win the boys title, breaking a run that carried Largo from ninth after the qualifying round, past Miami Killian and Palmetto and into the finals. Palmetto finished third and River Ridge was fourth.

Twenty-four boys and 20 girls squads competed.
