DADE CITY -- Regulars as well as first-timers are invited to take a free cruise on east Pasco's public bus service Wednesday as officials celebrate a year of five-day-a-week service between Lacoochee and Zephyrhills.
Pasco County public transportation manager Mike Carroll said riders can climb aboard the regional bus line without depositing the usual 50-cent fee from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. and all along the route, from Cummer Road in Lacoochee to the Westgate Shopping Center outside Zephyrhills on Wednesday.
"It's a promotional effort so people can experience the service and see that it's not hard to use and it's convenient," Carroll said.
Wednesday's free-ride day marks a year of weekday service.
The buses make five stops in Zephyrhills, at East Pasco Medical Center; Daughtery and Wire roads; North Avenue and 23rd Street; Westgate Shopping Center; and 12th Avenue and First Street. The northern route connects six stops: Morningside Place; Taylor Avenue and Canal Street; Church Avenue and Seventh Street; 14th and Lock streets; Cummer and Bower roads; and U.S. 98 and Trilby Road.
The two routes connect at Morningside Place.
Carroll said the service will add bicycle racks early next year so cyclists can ride to a stop, load up their bikes, and ride to another part of the area.
As part of the promotion, with the help of Healthy Families Pasco, community agencies are scheduled to offer information and giveaways at a display at the Dade City Wal-Mart on Wednesday.
